Sister Hemaxi, a teacher of Raja Yoga meditation since 1981, is the co-coordinator of Anubhuti Meditation and Retreat Center in Novato, California.
Born in Dar-es-Salaam in Africa, she moved to India at the age of 6, where she learned Hindi, as well as her native language Gujarati. When she was 11 years old her family moved to London, therefore, Sister Hemaxi is fluent in English also. In London she finished her basic schooling and went onto a two year business college, and at the age of 18 she became a regular student of the Brahma Kumaris, along with her parents and elder sister.
Although Sister Hema was never a willing student and had an anathema to books, she says the knowledge of the Brahma Kumaris inspired her to study and made her a life-long student of spiritual knowledge. She has a dedicated history of spiritual service with the BKs, serving in Dubai from 1986 to 1993, in the UK at the Oxford Retreat Center from 1993 to 1995 and in West Yorkshire from 1995 to 1998. From the UK she travelled to the USA to serve at the Los Angeles center in 1998, and Since July 2004 she has been serving at the Brahma Kumaris Anubhuti Meditation and Retreat Center in California.
Sister Hema brings enthusiasm and a desire for all to receive the benefit of a life of spiritual understanding and practice.
